SUMMARY



Synopsis of Bill



The bill provides for the review and accountability of the Medicaid managed care program; reporting on contract terms and renewals for managed care service providers; scope and responses of requests for proposals; reporting of information from the managed care contractors to the Legislative Finance Committee (LFC) including most of the information the managed care organization is required to report to the appropriate state agencies; prior to Medicaid managed care contract renewal or extension, the state agencies must report to the LFC with information and a recommendation regarding cost effectiveness, efficiencies and health improvements; and most of the above information must be available to the general public.



The effective date of the Medicaid Managed Care Accountability Act would be July 1, 1999.



FISCAL IMPLICATIONS



Under the provisions of the bill, the LFC could require additional staff or contract resources.
