SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 25 appropriates $100,000 to the New Mexico Office of Indian Affairs from the general fund for the purpose of providing community outreach and services to homeless people in Farmington who are members of Indian Tribes. The services would also encourage reintegration of these homeless people with their families and tribes.
Significant Issues
According to the Office of Indian Affairs the homeless urban Indian population in the Farmington area is rapidly increasing. Farmington and neighboring Navajo communities are lacking culturally appropriate services to address the Native American homeless issue.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The Office of Indian Affairs would enter into a joint powers agreement with a culturally competent provider for addressing homelessness in the Farmington area and will not cause additional costs to the agency.
ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS
The administrative implications to the Office of Indian Affairs would be minimal.
