AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC EDUCATION TO FUND SCHOOL DISTRICT IMPLEMENTATION OF THE ACCOUNTABILITY DATA SYSTEM; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Two million forty thousand dollars ($2,040,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the state department of public education for expenditure in fiscal years 1999 and 2000 for the purpose of funding school district implementation of the accountability data system. The department shall develop and implement an application process requiring school districts to justify extreme need and year-2000 computer requirements to purchase software, hardware and professional services. School districts shall use the accountability data system to meet state and federal reporting requirements. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2000 shall revert to the general fund.

Section 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
