MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY FOR SALARY INCREASES FOR THE SPECIAL INVESTIGATIONS DIVISION; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One hundred eighty-six thousand dollars ($186,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the department of public safety for expenditure in fiscal year 2000 for the purpose of increasing special investigations division agent salaries to achieve parity with state police officer salaries. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2000 shall revert to the general fund.

Section 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
