REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH TO PROVIDE IN-HOUSE AND RESIDENTIAL ADULT DAY CARE SERVICES TO THE COMMUNITY LOCATED IN THE UNINCORPORATED AREA OF THE SOUTH VALLEY IN BERNALILLO COUNTY.
WHEREAS, there is an increasing need for adult day care services as the population ages; and
WHEREAS, the unincorporated area of the south valley of Bernalillo county has approximately a population of sixty to eighty thousand citizens of which a large percentage are senior citizens in need of adult day care services; and
WHEREAS, the unincorporated area of the south valley of Bernalillo county is a large low-income community with little or no adult day care services available; and
WHEREAS, according to information provided by the Rio Grande community development corporation, approximately twenty-one percent of the elderly population of the unincorporated area of the south valley of Bernalillo county live alone;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the department of health be requested to provide in-house and residential adult day care services to the community located in the unincorporated area of the south valley in Bernalillo county; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the department of health.
