44TH LEGISLATURE - STATE OF NEW MEXICO - FIRST SESSION, 1999

REQUESTING THE BOARD OF REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO TO ADD ON TO THE NAME OF THE PIT AND CONSIDER A CORPORATE SPONSOR FOR THE NAME.

WHEREAS, the pit is nationally known for hosting exciting basketball of a highly competitive nature; and

WHEREAS, a national audience provides opportunity for high revenues from commercial partnerships; and

WHEREAS, stadiums and sports arenas in other cities have joined corporate sponsors in lucrative arrangements that have profited higher education;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the board of regents of the university of New Mexico be requested to solicit corporate sponsors to add on to the name of the pit and enhance the university's revenue; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the members of the board of regents of the university of New Mexico.
