A MEMORIAL

EXTENDING CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF KENNETH M. KAMERMAN.



WHEREAS, Kenneth M. Kamerman died on April 7, 1997; and

WHEREAS, he was born June 21, 1931, in Brooklyn, New York and attended Brooklyn technical high school, New York City's elite public school for science and engineering students, graduating in 1949; and

WHEREAS, he received a bachelor's degree in engineering from the university of Massachusetts at Lowell and a master's degree in business administration from the university of New Mexico; and

WHEREAS, he served with honor as an officer in the United States navy and naval reserve, and because he loved the beauty, open space and clear skies of New Mexico, he chose Albuquerque, New Mexico, as his home; and

WHEREAS, through his employment as business manager of Teaching Machines, incorporated, and Westinghouse learning centers, he led pioneering efforts in the reform of American public education, especially for the disadvantaged, was division director for Bellamah corporation of Albuquerque and supervised the design and building of residential communities that are still in use today; and

WHEREAS, as a volunteer for his community, he served, among many positions, as a founding board member of the Albuquerque police advisory board, as member and president of the Bernalillo county mental health center, as a ballot security volunteer at every general election for some twenty years, as well as many other volunteer positions in his party; and

WHEREAS, he was elected to the New Mexico state senate in 1986 and again in 1988, and voluntarily stepped down from public office in 1992; and

WHEREAS, he maintained throughout his life an unswerving commitment to the American system of representative democracy and free enterprise, regarded his word as his bond and held integrity in public office to be of the highest value;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that condolences be extended in loving memory to the friends and family of Kenneth M. Kamerman, an outstanding and devoted New Mexican; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the family of Kenneth M. Kamerman.
