RECOGNIZING THE FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF THE POOR CLARE NUNS OF ROSWELL.
WHEREAS, fifty years ago the archbishop of Santa Fe, most reverend Edwin Vincent Byrne, invited the Poor Clare nuns of Chicago to begin life anew in his ancient, historic see of Santa Fe; and
WHEREAS, on November 13, 1948, eight cloistered Poor Clare Nuns came to a little farmhouse-turned-monastery in Roswell, New Mexico; and
WHEREAS, in this fiftieth year, five daughterhouse foundations join them in spirit, celebrating the wonders of the Lord;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that congratulations be extended to the Poor Clare nuns, devoted citizens of New Mexico, who through their lives of prayer and joyous penitence celebrate their glorious "Right to be Merry"; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the Poor Clare nuns.
