44TH LEGISLATURE - STATE OF NEW MEXICO - FIRST SESSION, 1999
REQUESTING THE STATE HIGHWAY COMMISSION TO DEDICATE INTERSTATE 25 AS THE NEW MEXICO FREEDOM MEMORIAL HIGHWAY AND INTERSTATE 40 AS THE UNITED STATES FREEDOM MEMORIAL HIGHWAY.
WHEREAS, those who have made the supreme sacrifice or were wounded while defending our freedom, and all combat veterans, living or dead, who have engaged the enemy should be remembered by future generations; and
WHEREAS, the redesignation of interstates 25 and 40 is a way to pay lasting tribute to those veterans for preserving the freedom of the United States; and
WHEREAS, the state highway commission has a procedure for giving highways honorary names to recognize important achievements;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state highway commission be requested to dedicate interstate 25 as the New Mexico freedom memorial highway and interstate 40 as the United States freedom memorial highway, dedicated to the memory and recognition of American combat veterans; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the state highway commissioners and the secretary of highway and transportation.
