44TH LEGISLATURE - STATE OF NEW MEXICO - FIRST SESSION, 1999
REQUESTING THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL TO APPOINT AN INTERIM COMMITTEE TO STUDY ISSUES RELATED TO THE INTERNET.
WHEREAS, the internet offers expansive communications, commerce, research, entertainment and educational opportunities for business, government, organizations and individuals of all ages; and
WHEREAS, use of the internet raises new questions related to users' privacy and the right to be free from unwanted electronic mail, taxation on transactions conducted via the internet and legal issues related to content and access; and
WHEREAS, the legislature has an interest in ensuring that these issues are addressed to the best benefit of New Mexicans;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the legislative council be requested to appoint an interim committee to study issues related to the internet and to make recommendations to the second session of the forty-fourth legislature as it believes are necessary; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be delivered to the co-chairs of the legislative council.
