A MEMORIAL

SUPPORTING THE FORMATION OF A NEW MEXICO URBAN LEAGUE AFFILIATE IN NEW MEXICO.



WHEREAS, the New Mexico urban league is being formed to assist the state of New Mexico in the achievement of social and economic equality for all New Mexicans. It is an interracial, nonpartisan and nonprofit community service organization that uses methods of social work, economic law, business management and other disciplines to help secure social and economic equity; and

WHEREAS, the New Mexico urban league's mission is to assist the state of New Mexico in advocacy regarding public policies that impact our constituency; and

WHEREAS, the New Mexico urban league's mission is also to build bridges of understanding in an integrated and pluralistic society, to increase public awareness and understanding of the conditions of our constituency and to support our advocacy and program initiatives; and

WHEREAS, the New Mexico urban league's mission through its program services is to emphasize the importance of addressing the whole situation of an individual and family, to provide technical assistance and to empower neighborhoods and communities in carrying out their roles and responsibilities;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the New Mexico urban league, whose role, goals and objectives are welcomed and needed, be encouraged and supported; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the New Mexico urban league programs be designed to strengthen growth and development, identify the needs of the league's constituency and establish plans for corrective actions, work with existing institutions to help make them become more responsive to the needs of all groups in the community, mobilized and organize minority communities to develop alternatives to inadequate systems and develop or strengthen existing institutions, assuring the effective delivery of service to all citizens in New Mexico; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the national urban league.
