A MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING THE NEW MEXICO ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION.



WHEREAS, the New Mexico Activities Association, through its member schools, teaches morals, character and promotes the American system of achievement; and

WHEREAS, the activities program is viewed as an extension of the classroom as well as a wholesome event for student energies and talents; and

WHEREAS, no other aspect of the formal educational process cultivates a greater sense of community, competitive spirit or the work ethic, among other values; and

WHEREAS, interscholastic activities teach, uniquely, all three learning domains -- cognitive, affective and psychomotor; and

WHEREAS, interscholastic activities encourage positive role modeling, support for others and a meaningful attachment to a positive endeavor; and

WHEREAS, the evidence supports through the research that interscholastic activities enhance leadership, encourage high expectations and accountability, as well as mirror the lessons of life needed to compete in a competitive society; and

WHEREAS, this vast laboratory for learning shall serve as the microcosm of life in a harmless, yet substantive environment that has taught value education, or its success traits, as a formal organization for over seventy-eight years;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the month of March, 1999, be known as "New Mexico Activities Association State Event Month".
