44TH LEGISLATURE - STATE OF NEW MEXICO - FIRST SESSION, 1999
EXPRESSING THE CONDOLENCES OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF ARTURO GUILLERMO ORTEGA.
WHEREAS, Arturo Guillermo Ortega died on January 20, 1999; and
WHEREAS, he was born in Las Vegas, New Mexico, attending schools in Las Vegas and then Regis college in Denver before serving as a B-17 pilot with the eighth army air force in Europe where he was shot down over Germany in World War II and held prisoner until his escape in 1945; and
WHEREAS, he graduated summa cum laude from the school of foreign service and then received his law degree from Georgetown university, which also granted him the John Carroll award for his contribution to the law and to higher education; and
WHEREAS, he dedicated his life to serving his family, community, country and state; and
WHEREAS, he was a founder of the Hispanic cultural center and member of numerous community and professional associations, boards and commissions; and
WHEREAS, he is survived by his wife Eloisa, children Arturo Jr., Ricardo, Cristina, Carlos, Daniel, Roberto and Armando and twelve grandchildren and many friends, colleagues and admirers;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that condolences be expressed to the family and friends of Arturo Guillermo Ortega, a loving and devoted New Mexican; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to Eloisa Ortega.
