44TH LEGISLATURE - STATE OF NEW MEXICO - FIRST SESSION, 1999
REQUESTING ALL STATE GOVERNMENT AGENCIES TO PROVIDE LEAVE TO STATE GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES TO VOLUNTEER IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
WHEREAS, the children of New Mexico are the state's greatest resource; and
WHEREAS, the public schools of New Mexico are in chronic need of volunteers to serve as role models and mentors; and
WHEREAS, state government employees comprise a large pool of highly qualified professionals who could contribute greatly to students in the public schools;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that all state government agencies provide leave to state government employees so that they may volunteer in the public schools for two hours per week; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the governor, the legislature, the heads of all executive agencies and the superintendent of public instruction.
