SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 694 appropriates 50.0 from the general fund to the Department of Health for the purpose of planning a joint investigative study of emerging infectious diseases in New Mexico. All unencumbered funds remaining at the end of FY 2000 revert to the general fund.
Significant Issues
At the present time, the Coulston Center, a primate research facility located near Alamogordo has done significant research on emerging infectious diseases such as HIV. The purpose of planning this study is to evaluate the possibilities of utilizing the experience and expertise of this facility to study infectious disease problems in New Mexico.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The department has the necessary fiscal controls to manage these monies.
ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS
Administration of these monies is within the budgeted capacity of this department.
