SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

Senate Bill 584 appropriates $1,250.0 to the Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD) for juvenile community corrections programs. The programs are specifically designed to reintegrate children into their own homes or communities who are currently placed in juvenile institutions.

Significant Issues

These services are currently provided by the Juvenile Justice Division of CYFD. The bill mandates that these services shall include a statewide evaluation of the entire juvenile corrections programs.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

Senate Bill 584 appropriates $1,250.0 from the general fund and is recurring. The CYFD currently provides these services and is budgeted $3,024.7 in FY99 and the LFC and Executive budget recommendations include this amount.

ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS

CYFD already administers the juvenile corrections program; the bill would enhance the current funding and program services.
