SUMMARY



Synopsis of SCORC Amendments



The Senate Corporations and Transportation Committee amendments to SB569 specify that when the PRC determines a commercial mobile radio services provider qualifies as an eligible telecommunications carrier pursuant to federal law, the PRC shall apply the surcharge to end-user retail public telecommunications services provided in the state by that carrier.



Synopsis of Bill



Senate Bill 569, the State Universal Service Fund Act, would create a new universal service fund while repealing the former New Mexico universal service fund and transferring the fund balances to the new fund on July 1, 1999. The PRC would implement the provisions of the Act by January 1, 2000.
