SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

Senate Bill 544 appropriates $20.0 from the general fund to provide senior citizen services on an emergency basis in Dona Ana County.

Significant Issues

The funds in this bill are to address a funding shortfall for senior services in Dona Ana County. According to the Agency, funding increases have not kept up with population growth. Consequently, all local resources have reached their limited fiscal ability to meet the service need.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

The bill appropriates $20.0 from the general fund for expenditure in fiscal year 1999. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 1999 will revert to the general fund. There is an emergency clause contained in the bill.

ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS

The Agency indicates they will be able to absorb the administrative function within their existing capacity.

CONFLICT/DUPLICATION/COMPANIONSHIP/RELATIONSHIP

Relates to HB 2 and SB 2 State Agency on Aging budget appropriations.
