SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

Senate Bill 477 appropriates $750.0 from the general fund to the Human Services Department to support a statewide safe water assistance program for indigent and low-income persons.

Significant Issues

A similar program was funded by the Legislature in FY96. At that time, however, the New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority was directed to administer the program.

DUPLICATION

Duplicates House Bill 199

POSSIBLE QUESTIONS

1. Is the Mortgage Finance Authority better equipped to administer this program statewide than regional community action agencies?
