SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 694 proposes the creation of a dual taxation study task force to undertake a comprehensive study of the fiscal, economic and social impacts of dual taxation on the state and on Indian nations, tribes and pueblos.
The task force would be made up of 18 persons, with representation from Indian nations, tribes and pueblos, the governor, and the legislature. The task force would be staffed by the Legislative Council Service.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The bill contains a $162 thousand appropriation to the legislative council service to cover the costs of supplies, staff and contracts as well as to cover the per diem and mileage provided to task force members. The appropriation is for FY99 and is non-recurring.
There are no immediate revenue implications from the bill. Revenue implications would only result if the legislature adopted some of the recommendations of the task force in later legislation.
