SUMMARY



Synopsis of HFl#1 Amendment



This amendment would extend the limitations of gifts of food and beverage and the contributions a nominee for membership to the PERA Board to a person who: "is an organization, association or other entity having membership that includes persons described in Paragraphs (1) through (3) of this subsection."



This amendment would help prevent bearers' of gifts and contributors to campaigns from "going around" the restrictions placed.



This amendment also adds a new section the Education Retirement Act limiting gift restrictions to Educational Retirement Board Members and employees of the Board in the exact same manner as those imposed on the Public Employees Retirement Association board members and employees.



Synopsis of Bill



This bill would amend the Public Employees Retirement Act by restricting the dollar amount of gifts PERA board members and PERA employees can accept. A gifts of food and/or beverage may not exceed $50.00 and the annual total from a provider may not exceed $150.00.



No board member or employee of PERA may accept any gift from a person who is an authorized investor in public funds or an agent thereof, a contractor, a bidder, or potential bidder of PERA contracts.



This bill would limit campaign contributions to $25.00 of a person seeking membership on the PERA board from a person who is an authorized investor in public funds or an agent thereof, a contractor, a bidder, or potential bidder of PERA contracts.



This bill would take effect immediately.
