SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 541 would amend Section 6-4-8 NMSA 1978 to permit appropriations from the DWI program fund to municipalities for DWI caseload increases. Appropriations from this fund could be used to assist in funding the salaries of city attorneys, municipal public defenders, municipal employees and municipal court costs.
Significant Issues
House Bill 541 adds another potential recipient of DWI program funds.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
According to the Local Government Division of the Department of Finance and Administration, there are no cash balances in the DWI program fund. Unless there is a new appropriation by the Legislature to the DWI program fund, House Bill 541 will have no fiscal impact.
