SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
This bill expands the definition of "resident for tuition purposes" to include Texas residents living within a 200 mile radius of a constitutional New Mexico institution.
Significant Issues
Current law allows residency for Texas residents living within a 135 mile radius of a constitutional New Mexico institution. According to the CHE, forgone tuition revenue to those institutions participating - New Mexico State University and Western New Mexico University - was $4,942.1.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
While this bill makes no appropriation, should this bill pass, the change in resident student status will have a general fund impact of approximately $4,942.1.
