SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

HB 359 appropriates $25.0 to the 11th DA's Office-Division II for the purpose of repaying a loan from the Board of Finance which was used to convene a special grand jury and contract for services of a special prosecutor.

Significant Issues

This bill appropriates $25.0 for FY2000 and subsequent fiscal years, and this amount is non-reverting.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

According to the AODA, HB 359 has a significant impact for the Eleventh DA's Office-Division II. The non-reverting appropriation will allow the Gallup DA's Office to repay a loan to the Board of Finance for a case which involved a special prosecutor and a special grand jury. Additionally, these were expenses which the DA's Office did not anticipate and which were unexpected.

ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS

The administrative impact on the Gallup DA's Office would be minimal.

CONSEQUENCES OF NOT ENACTING THIS BILL

The Gallup DA's Office will be unable to repay this loan to the Board of Finance, which will eventually carry over from fiscal year to fiscal year until it can be repaid.
