SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
This bill modifies the lottery tuition scholarship to include eligibility for dependents of New Mexico residents on active duty in the U.S. armed forces. These students would not be required to have graduated from a New Mexico high school.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The fiscal impact of this bill is minimal as the CHE has projected that few dependents of persons in military service outside of the state will participate. However, with current eligibility, it is expected that eligibility will outpace 40 percent of net lottery revenues. This will require that the CHE reduce awards from 100 percent of tuition to between 80 percent to 90 percent.
