SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
This bill amends the instructional materials distribution in order to count additional or new pupils as six pupils.
Significant Issues
According to SDE, the instructional materials funding cycle is a 6 year adoption cycle with each year representing a different content area as follows: 1) Vocational Education, Adult Basic Education, computer literacy, careers; 2) language acquisition; 3) Social Studies; 4) Science; 5) Math; and 6) Language Arts.
Under the current instructional material law, additional pupils are counted as four pupils. The increase proposed in this bill would coincide with the six year adoption cycle and allow school districts to purchase instructional materials for new students in each of the six subject areas in the cycle.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
This bill does not contain an appropriation.
OTHER SUBSTANTIVE ISSUES
Included in the State Board of Education's request for public school support is $274.1 to support this initiative.
