SUMMARY
Synopsis of HAFC Amendment
The House Appropriations and Finance Committee amendment would do two things: it would eliminate the appropriation for the Office of African American Affairs, and it would change the effective date from July 1, 1999 to July 1, 2000.
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 140 would create the Commission on African American Affairs. The commission would comprise nine members, and would oversee an office director, who would be an exempt state employee, and necessary staff. Among a few of its responsibilities, the commission would study educational, historical, and cultural issues important to African Americans and would publish an annual report for the Legislature. The bill would create the "Office on African American Affairs fund."
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
House Bill 140 contains a general fund appropriation of $200.0.
