SUMMARY
Synopsis of House Education Committee
The House Education Committee Amendment is technical in nature and does not change the original analysis.
Synopsis of Bill
This bill appropriates $50.0 from the general fund to the State Department of Education for expenditure in fiscal year 2000 to pilot community school initiatives in the Santa Fe Public School District.
Significant Issues
The funds will be for the following community school initiatives:
1. Parent Education activities;
2. Parents as Teachers programs; and
3. Before- and After-School programs for children ages five through twelve.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The bill reduces the general fund by $50.0 in fiscal year 2000. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2000 will revert to the general fund.
ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS
The Agency indicates that the existing staff can absorb the responsibilities in their current capacity. However, they also indicate that if a number of significant projects are approved, additional staff may be necessary.
