SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

House Bill 27 appropriates 100.0 from the general fund to the Department of Health for expenditure in FY 2000 for the purpose of hiring and possibly training two additional licensed emergency medical technicians to be stationed at the pueblo of Jemez.

Significant Issues

Much of the service provided in the Jemez Valley area is provided by volunteers and there is a need to have more paid personnel to alleviate the workload that is increasing every year. The service area is estimated to be over 415 square miles and there are only two full time paid emergency medical technicians.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

Money from the emergency medical services fund act comes to the pueblo of Jemez service as well as the other providers in the area. However, these monies are not sufficient to hire the additional personnel needed.

ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS

Administration of these monies is within available resources at the Department of Health.
