AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR WOMEN'S SPORTS AT CERTAIN PUBLIC POST-SECONDARY EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--

A. Eight hundred twenty thousand dollars ($820,000) is appropriated from the general fund for expenditure in fiscal year 2000 for the purpose of increasing women's sports activities to comply with Title 9 of the federal Education Amendments of 1972 to the following entities in the following amounts:

(1) three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) to the board of regents of the university of New Mexico;

(2) three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) to the board of regents of New Mexico state university;

(3) fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) to the board of regents of western New Mexico university;

(4) fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) to the board of regents of eastern New Mexico university;

(5) fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) to the board of regents of New Mexico highlands university;

(6) thirty-five thousand dollars ($35,000) to the board of regents of New Mexico institute of mining and technology; and

(7) thirty-five thousand dollars ($35,000) to the governing board of New Mexico junior college.

B. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2000 shall revert to the general fund.
