AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR A STATEWIDE SERVICE LEARNING PROGRAM.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Three hundred fifty thousand dollars ($350,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the state department of public education for expenditure in fiscal year 2000 for a statewide public service learning program that integrates service learning into academic curricula and other educational initiatives so that students, including students with disabilities, are provided public service learning opportunities. The state department of public education shall collaborate with the commission on higher education to ensure involvement of post-secondary educational institutions. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2000 shall revert to the general fund.
