MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO COMPLETE A STUDY AND ESTABLISH A DATABASE MEASURING HOUSING COSTS, COST-OF-LIVING AND OTHER FACTORS THAT AFFECT RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION OF QUALIFIED TEACHERS.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Two hundred seventy thousand dollars ($270,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the state department of public education for expenditure in fiscal years 1999 and 2000 to contract for the completion of independent studies and to establish a database that measures housing costs, cost-of-living factors and other factors that affect the recruitment and retention of qualified teachers in the state's eighty-nine school districts. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of the fiscal year 2000 shall revert to the general fund.
