RELATING TO EDUCATION; ESTABLISHING A MENTORSHIP PROGRAM FOR BEGINNING TEACHERS.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. A new section of the Public School Code is enacted to read:
"[NEW MATERIAL] MENTORSHIP PROGRAM FOR BEGINNING TEACHERS.--A local school board may establish a mentorship program for beginning teachers. The state board and the commission on higher education shall develop a systemic plan for the recruitment, preparation, mentorship and support of teachers. The plan for mentorship programs for beginning teachers shall include requirements for licensure, salary during the mentorship period, training for mentors, training for evaluators and assessors of teacher competencies."
