RECOGNIZING JANUARY 28, 1999 AS "LABS PARTNERSHIP DAY IN NEW MEXICO".
WHEREAS, New Mexico has been at the forefront of scientific endeavors for over fifty years due to the presence in our state of several national research and development institutions; and
WHEREAS, the Los Alamos national laboratory and Sandia national laboratories have made an enormous contribution to the safety and security of the United States and have helped to maintain the United States' preeminent position in research and development worldwide; and
WHEREAS, the laboratories have provided substantial employment, purchase of in-state goods and services and many other economic benefits to the citizens of the state; and
WHEREAS, our laboratories have partnered with other entities in the state in the areas of community and education outreach, technology transfer and computing; and
WHEREAS, the dedication and leadership of many New Mexico lawmakers in the area of research and development has helped to create a healthy atmosphere for scientific pursuits within the state;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that January 28, 1999 be recognized as "Labs Partnership Day in New Mexico"; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the directors of Los Alamos and Sandia national laboratories.
