SENATE EXECUTIVE MESSAGE NO. 24

The Honorable Manny M. Aragon and

Members of the Senate

Executive-Legislative Building

Santa Fe, New Mexico 87503

Honorable President and Members of the Senate:

I have this day VETOED and am returning SENATE BILL 284 enacted by the Forty-Fourth Legislature, First Session, 1999.

This legislation would require the Highway and Transportation Department to replace, renovate or maintain existing historical markers at least once every four years. The department currently has a process in place to address deteriorating historic markers. Accordingly, they perform the functions set forth in this bill as a matter of course. It is my opinion this legislative mandate is not necessary.

Sincerely,

Gary E. Johnson

Governor
