0001| SENATE MEMORIAL 24 | 0002| 43RD LEGISLATURE - STATE OF NEW MEXICO - SECOND SESSION, 1998 | 0003| INTRODUCED BY | 0004| LEONARD LEE RAWSON | 0005| | 0006| | 0007| | 0008| | 0009| | 0010| A MEMORIAL | 0011| REQUESTING THE UNITED STATES AIR FORCE NOT TO REDUCE FORCES AT | 0012| HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE. | 0013| | 0014| WHEREAS, the training squadron at Holloman air force base | 0015| will inactivate, transferring six of its nine F-117 aircraft | 0016| to other Holloman squadrons, and the remaining three F-117 | 0017| aircraft will be placed in attrition reserve, resulting in a | 0018| reduction of two hundred twenty-one military and nine civilian | 0019| authorizations; and | 0020| WHEREAS, the forty-eighth rescue squadron will inactivate | 0021| and move its six HH-60 helicopters to other air force | 0022| locations, decreasing manpower by one civilian and one hundred | 0023| sixty-seven military authorizations; and | 0024| WHEREAS, the downsizing of the fourth space warning | 0025| squadron and its reduction in security support requirements |

0001| results in a reduction of fifty-one military authorizations; | 0002| and | 0003| WHEREAS, overall these actions will result in a new | 0004| reduction of four hundred thirty-nine military and ten | 0005| civilian authorizations; and | 0006| WHEREAS, a reduction in manpower of this proportion at | 0007| Holloman by the United States air force would cause severe | 0008| economic difficulties in the city of Alamogordo; and | 0009| WHEREAS, both civilian and military employees of Holloman | 0010| air force base reside in Alamogordo and contribute heavily to | 0011| the local tax base of the community; | 0012| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE | 0013| OF NEW MEXICO that it request the United States air force to | 0014| reconsider the proposed reductions at Holloman air force base | 0015| in Alamogordo; and | 0016| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be | 0017| transmitted to the secretary of the air force, the secretary | 0018| of defense and the New Mexico congressional delegation. | 0019|  |
