ARAGON | 0005| | 0006| | 0007| | 0008| | 0009| | 0010| A MEMORIAL | 0011| RECOGNIZING AND CONGRATULATING JAMES SILVA AND HIS FAMILY FOR | 0012| THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS AND DEVOTION TO NEW MEXICO. | 0013| | 0014| WHEREAS, James Silva and Ella Gonzales Silva opened their | 0015| business, the Pottery House, selling Indian and southwestern | 0016| art, in 1933; and | 0017| WHEREAS, the Pottery House dealt with Indian artifacts | 0018| dating back to 900 A.D. and Hispanic artifacts; and | 0019| WHEREAS, the store gave the Silva family the experience | 0020| and resources to invest in three nightclubs and the Tiguex | 0021| theater, which later became the Zia; and | 0022| WHEREAS, James became a Bernalillo county humanitarian, | 0023| helping hundreds of people through his stores with credit, | 0024| donations and co-signatures for needy people and helping Our | 0025| Lady of Sorrows renovate the church; and |

0001| | 0002| WHEREAS, in 1969, James reopened the Pottery House with | 0003| his daughter Rose, naming it Rose's Pottery House, and after | 0004| he passed away in 1993, Rose, Antoinette and son, James Jr., | 0005| continued the business; and | 0006| WHEREAS, James' legacy of generosity and accomplishment | 0007| continues through the achievements of his children and | 0008| grandchildren; | 0009| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE | 0010| OF NEW MEXICO that recognition and congratulations be extended | 0011| to James Silva and his family for their contributions and | 0012| devotion to New Mexico; and | 0013| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be | 0014| transmitted to the family of James Silva. | 0015|  | 0016| |
