0011| DECLARING FEBRUARY 3 AS COMMUNITY COLLEGE DAY IN THE

0012| LEGISLATURE.

0014| WHEREAS, community colleges in New Mexico are
|
0015| strategically located around the state for easy access to the
|
0016| post-secondary and lifelong learning needs of our citizens;
|
0017| and
|
0018| WHEREAS, community colleges now educate and train fifty-
|
0019| three thousand New Mexicans in credit programs, or fifty-three
|
0020| percent of the total higher education student population, and
|
0021| another estimated seventy-five thousand New Mexicans in
|
0022| noncredit adult and continuing education; and
|
0023| WHEREAS, community colleges play an important role in
|
0024| local, regional and statewide efforts in literacy training,
|
0025| work force development, economic development and welfare
|

|
0002| WHEREAS, community colleges are committed to teaching
|
0003| excellence and produce students who excel in their academic
|
0004| and career development;
|
0005| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
|
0006| REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that in recognition
|
0007| of the importance of community colleges in New Mexico,
|
0008| February 3, 1998 be designated "community college day" in the
|
0009| legislature; and
|
0010| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the nominated community
|
0011| college academic all-state team consisting of the following
|
0012| students be recognized by the senate:
|
0013| Eva Alcala and Karla Musgrove, Clovis community college;
|
0014| Clinton L. Dozier and Laurie Scott, New Mexico state
|
0015| university-Dona Ana; Martha Patterson and Shaya Patton,
|
0016| eastern New Mexico university-Roswell; Luis Aragon, III and
|
0017| Cynthia Gonzales, Luna vocational-technical institute; Blanca
|
0018| Esthela Banuelos and John Frost, Mesa technical college; David
|
0019| Sinclair, New Mexico military institute; Mary Byman and
|
0020| Loralei Hoggard, New Mexico state university-Alamogordo;
|
0021| Richard Vickrey, New Mexico state university-Carlsbad; Emily
|
