WRIGHT | 0005| | 0006| | 0007| | 0008| | 0009| | 0010| A JOINT MEMORIAL | 0011| REQUESTING THE LEGISLATIVE EDUCATION STUDY COMMITTEE IN | 0012| COOPERATION WITH THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC EDUCATION TO | 0013| ASSESS THE COST AND FISCAL PARAMETERS OF YEAR-ROUND SCHOOLS. | 0014| | 0015| WHEREAS, about four schools now are open that provide | 0016| parents and students the choice of year-round education; and | 0017| WHEREAS, some school districts are overcrowded and may | 0018| decide to maintain year-round education as a means of coping | 0019| with growing enrollments; and | 0020| WHEREAS, some school districts may offer year-round | 0021| education to provide parents and students more educational | 0022| alternatives; and | 0023| WHEREAS, in some districts it is a fiscal necessity and | 0024| in other districts it is an amenity for parents and students; | 0025| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE |

0001| STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the legislative education study | 0002| committee, in cooperation with the state department of public | 0003| education, be requested to study the fiscal parameters of | 0004| year-round education, including the need for additional | 0005| funding for those districts in which year-round education is | 0006| the only option in lieu of capital construction; and | 0007| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the legislative education | 0008| study committee and the state department of public education | 0009| report their findings and recommendations to the legislature | 0010| by December 1, 1998; and | 0011| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be | 0012| transmitted to the legislative education study committee and | 0013| the superintendent of public instruction. | 0014|  |
