0011|     REQUESTING THAT THE LABOR DEPARTMENT NOT DIRECT A PERSON TO

0012|     PROVIDE HIS SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER ON THE OUTSIDE OF AN

0013|     ENVELOPE USED BY THAT DEPARTMENT TO PROCESS UNEMPLOYMENT

0014|     COMPENSATION CLAIMS.

0016|          WHEREAS, the labor department currently directs a person
    |
0017|     to provide his social security number on the outside of an
    |
0018|     envelope used by the department to process unemployment
    |
0019|     compensation claims; and
    |
0020|          WHEREAS, many people are wary of writing their social
    |
0021|     security number in plain view on the outside of an envelope,
    |
0022|     due to privacy concerns; 
    |
0023|          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE
    |
0024|     STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the labor department not direct a
    |
0025|     person to provide his social security number on the outside of
    |

0002|     compensation claims; and
    |
0003|          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the labor department explore
    |
0004|     less intrusive alternatives that will still enable the
    |
0005|     department to process unemployment compensation claims in a
    |
0006|     timely manner; and
    |
0007|          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be
    |
0008|     sent to the secretary of labor.
