VIGIL | 0005| | 0006| | 0007| | 0008| | 0009| | 0010| A JOINT MEMORIAL | 0011| REQUESTING THE NEW PRESIDENTS OF ALL POST-SECONDARY | 0012| INSTITUTIONS TO PREPARE ACADEMIC ADVISORY PLANS FOR IMPROVING | 0013| RATES OF STUDENT RETENTION AND SUBMIT THOSE PLANS TO THE | 0014| COMMISSION ON HIGHER EDUCATION FOR REVIEW. | 0015| | 0016| WHEREAS, education is of critical importance to the | 0017| welfare and economy of New Mexico; and | 0018| WHEREAS, the success of students enrolled in post- | 0019| secondary educational institutions directly affects the state | 0020| economy; and | 0021| WHEREAS, the commission on higher education is dedicated | 0022| to improving the standards and access to post-secondary | 0023| education for all New Mexicans; and | 0024| WHEREAS, the legislature is concerned with improving the | 0025| performance of post-secondary educational institutions and the | - 1 - 0001| retention and completion rates of students; | 0002| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE | 0003| STATE OF NEW MEXICO that new presidents of the post-secondary | 0004| institutions are requested to prepare academic advisory plans | 0005| for improving rates of student retention and, within sixty | 0006| days of assuming their offices, to submit their plans for | 0007| review to the commission on higher education by June 1, 1998; | 0008| and | 0009| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be | 0010| transmitted to the president of each post-secondary | 0011| educational institution and to the director of the commission | 0012| on higher education. | 0013|  |
