JENNINGS | 0005| | 0006| | 0007| | 0008| | 0009| | 0010| AN ACT | 0011| RELATING TO THE GOVERNOR; PRIVATIZING SECURITY AND PROTECTION FOR THE GOVERNOR | 0012| AND HIS FAMILY; MAKING TRANSFERS. | 0013| | 0014| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO: | 0015| Section 1. Section 29-2-27 NMSA 1978 (being Laws 1969, Chapter 125, Section | 0016| 1, as amended) is amended to read: | 0017| "29-2-27. SECURITY FOR THE GOVERNOR AND THE LEGISLATURE.-- | 0018| ~[A. The New Mexico state police shall provide security and protection for | 0019| the governor and security and protection for the governor's family. The extent and manner | 0020| in which the security is provided shall be determined by the governor and the chief of the | 0021| New Mexico state police. | 0022| B.]~ |A.| The New Mexico state police shall provide security and protection | 0023| for the legislature while it is in session. | 0024| |B. The governor's office may contract, in compliance with the Procurement | 0025| Code, with a private security firm to provide security and protection for the governor and | - 1 - 0001| his family.|" | 0002| Section 2. TEMPORARY PROVISION--BUDGET TRANSFERS.-- | 0003| A. On the effective date of this act, appropriations to the department of | 0004| public safety for the governor's security bureau are transferred to the office of the | 0005| governor. Money transferred shall be used only to contract for security and protection for | 0006| the governor and his family. | 0007| B. On the effective date of this act, appropriations to the office of the | 0008| governor to pay per diem and travel expenses of state police serving as security for the | 0009| governor and his family are transferred to the contractual services category of the office of | 0010| the governor to contract for security and protection for the governor and his family. Money | 0011| transferred shall be used only for the purpose of this subsection. | 0012| C. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining from transfers for | 0013| contracting for security and protection of the governor and his family shall revert to the | 0014| general fund at the end of fiscal year 1999. | 0015| Section 3. EFFECTIVE DATE.--The effective date of the provisions of this act is | 0016| July 1, 1998. | 0017|  |
