0011|     RELATING TO PUBLIC EDUCATION; PROVIDING FOR A TWENTY PERCENT

0016|     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

0017|          Section 1.  WORLD-CLASS TEACHERS--SALARY INCREASE--
    |
0018|     APPROPRIATION.--
    |
0019|               A.  During fiscal year 1999 the state department of
    |
0020|     public education shall distribute an amount to each local
    |
0021|     school district necessary to provide a twenty percent salary
    |
0022|     increase to each teacher within that school district who has
    |
0023|     been certified by the national board for professional teaching
    |
0024|     standards.

0025|               B.  Five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) is
    |

0001|     appropriated from the general fund to the state department of
    |
0002|     public education for expenditure in fiscal year 1999 for the
    |
0003|     purpose of carrying out the provisions of Subsection A of this
    |
0004|     section.  Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at
    |
0005|     the end of fiscal year 1999 shall revert to the general fund.
