0011|     MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR A FAMILY LITERACY PROGRAM LOCATED

0012|     IN BERNALILLO COUNTY.

0014|     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
    |
0015|          Section 1.  APPROPRIATION.--Fifty thousand dollars
    |
0016|     ($50,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the state
    |
0017|     department of public education for expenditure in fiscal year
    |
0018|     1999 for the purpose of funding a family literacy program in
    |
0019|     Bernalillo county that encourages availability of high
    |
0020|     quality, culturally appropriate books; parental involvement
    |
0021|     with the child in providing quality time to read aloud to the
    |
0022|     child; and reinforcement by health professionals that reading
    |
0023|     is essential to the healthy development of the child.  Any
    |
0024|     unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of
    |
0025|     fiscal year 1999 shall revert to the general fund.
