0011|     RELATING TO EDUCATION; PROVIDING SALARY INCREASES AND

0012|     REIMBURSEMENT FOR EXAMINATION EXPENSES FOR TEACHERS WHO ARE

0013|     CERTIFIED BY THE NATIONAL BOARD FOR PROFESSIONAL TEACHING

0014|     STANDARDS; ENACTING A NEW SECTION OF THE PUBLIC SCHOOL CODE.

0016|     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
    |
0017|          Section 1.  A new section of the Public School Code is
    |
0018|     enacted to read:
    |
0019|          "[<u>NEW MATERIAL</u>] TEACHERS CERTIFIED BY THE NATIONAL
    |
0020|     BOARD FOR PROFESSIONAL TEACHING STANDARDS--SALARY INCREASE--
    |
0021|     REIMBURSEMENT FOR EXAMINATION EXPENSE.--
    |
0022|               A.  A teacher who takes the examination to become
    |
0023|     certified by the national board for professional teaching
    |
0024|     standards shall have his salary increased by twenty percent
    |
0025|     and shall be reimbursed for the examination expense of two
    |

0001|     thousand dollars ($2,000), if:
    |
0002|                    (1)  the teacher successfully passes the
    |
0003|     examination and is certified by the national board for
    |
0004|     professional teaching standards; and
    |
0005|                    (2)  the teacher prepared for the examination
    |
0006|     on his own time and not during regular school hours.
    |
0007|               B.  A teacher already certified by the national
    |
0008|     board for professional teaching standards prior to July 1,
    |
0009|     1998, shall receive a twenty percent salary increase and shall
    |
0010|     be reimbursed two thousand dollars ($2,000) for the
    |
0011|     examination expense, if the teacher prepared for the
    |
0012|     examination on his own time and not during regular school
    |
0013|     hours."
    |
0014|          Section 2.  EFFECTIVE DATE.--The effective date of the
    |
0015|     provisions of this act is July 1, 1998.
