TEMPORARY PROVISION--PILOT PROJECT.-- | 0018| A. The state department of public education shall | 0019| establish a pilot project in the Alamogordo municipal school | 0020| district in the 1998-99 school year to provide educational | 0021| alternatives for home-schooled students to enable: | 0022| (1) home-schooled students to participate in | 0023| classes that cannot otherwise be offered through a home-school | 0024| environment or to participate in classes that the parent or | 0025| guardian feels cannot be accommodated in the home school; and |

0001| (2) the school district to supplement the | 0002| education of home-schooled students in areas where they may be | 0003| deficient, without the burden of additional cost to the | 0004| district. | 0005| B. The state department of public education shall | 0006| pay to the district the pro rata share of unit value based on | 0007| the number of classes per home-schooled student. Each | 0008| participating student must be enrolled in and attending one or | 0009| more classes prior to the fortieth-day count. | 0010| C. The school district shall pay any | 0011| administrative costs of the pilot project. | 0012| D. The school district and the state department of | 0013| public education shall report periodically to the legislative | 0014| education study committee on the progress and effectiveness of | 0015| the pilot project, and shall issue a final report to the | 0016| legislature by January 15, 2000. | 0017| Section 2. EFFECTIVE DATE.--The effective date of the | 0018| provisions of this act is July 1, 1998. | 0019|  |
