0011|     MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR PUBLIC SCHOOL LEADERSHIP

0012|     INITIATIVE PROGRAMS.

0014|     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
    |
0015|          Section 1.  APPROPRIATION.--Two million five hundred
    |
0016|     thousand dollars ($2,500,000) is appropriated from the general
    |
0017|     fund to the state department of public education for
    |
0018|     expenditure in fiscal year 1999 for the purpose of
    |
0019|     establishing innovative programs for public schools based on
    |
0020|     leadership initiatives developed by the state board of
    |
0021|     education.  Funds shall be distributed on a competitive basis
    |
0022|     through an application and review process to be conducted by
    |
0023|     the state board of education.  Any unexpended or unencumbered
    |
0024|     balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 1999 shall revert
    |
0025|     to the general fund.
