AN ACT

RELATING TO ENERGY CONSERVATION; PROVIDING FOR A STUDY AND DEMONSTRATION BY THE SECRETARY OF ENERGY, MINERALS AND NATURAL RESOURCES OF THE FEASIBILITY OF CONVERTING STATE-OWNED VEHICLES FROM GASOLINE POWER TO RENEWABLE ENERGY POWER.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. RENEWABLE ENERGY POWERED VEHICLES--DEMONSTRATION AND STUDY--APPROPRIATION.--The secretary of energy, minerals and natural resources shall conduct a study and a practical demonstration of the feasibility of converting state-owned automobiles and vans from gasoline power to renewable energy power, including hydrogen batteries and hydrogen fuel cells. The study shall include a cost-benefit analysis that considers life cycle costing and the costs of environmental degradation associated with gasoline vehicles. The secretary shall submit his study and recommendations to the second session of the forty-fourth legislature.
