MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR LEGISLATIVE LEADERSHIP STAFF.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Five hundred forty-six thousand five hundred ninety dollars ($546,590) is appropriated from the general fund to the legislative council service for expenditure in fiscal year 1999 to provide staff for the speaker of the house, president pro tempore and the majority and minority leadership offices of each house to assist the legislative leadership in carrying out the ever-increasing institutional duties of the leaders in accomplishing the work of the legislature, including primarily coordinating and communicating with other members of the legislature, other branches of government, the media and the public; policy analysis and special projects; and office-related duties. The leader and whip of each party shall agree on staff appointments. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 1999 shall revert to the general fund.
