0011| PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO ARTICLE 4, SECTION 10 OF THE

0012| CONSTITUTION OF NEW MEXICO TO PROHIBIT A LEGISLATOR FROM

0013| RECEIVING COMPENSATION FROM PUBLIC FUNDS AS AN EMPLOYEE OF A

0014| POLITICAL SUBDIVISION DURING A LEGISLATIVE SESSION AND FOR
|
0015| MEETINGS CALLED BY A LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE.

0017| BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
|
0018| Section 1. It is proposed to amend Article 4, Section 10
|
0019| of the constitution of New Mexico to read:
|
0020| "Each member of the legislature shall receive:
|
0021| A. per diem at the internal revenue service per
|
0022| diem rate for the city of Santa Fe for each day's attendance
|
0023| during each session of the legislature and the internal revenue
|
0024| service standard mileage rate for each mile traveled in going
|
0025| to and returning from the seat of government by the usual
|
0001| traveled route, once each session as defined by Article 4,
|
0002| Section 5 of this constitution;
|
0003| B. per diem expense and mileage at the same rates
|
0004| as provided in Subsection A of this section for service at
|
0005| meetings required by legislative committees established by the
|
0006| legislature to meet in the interim between session; and
|
0007| C. no other compensation, perquisite or allowance,
|
0008| including any compensation for employment paid from public
|
0009| funds of a political subdivision during each day's attendance
|
0010| at a session of the legislature and for service at meetings
|
0011| required by legislative committee."
|
0012| Section 2. The amendment proposed by this resolution
|
0013| shall be submitted to the people for their approval or
|
0014| rejection at the next general election or at any special
|
0015| election prior to that date which may be called for that
|
0016| purpose.
